Results of our 1st express survey
Here is the simplified result of our first
Express survey. On a voluntary basis, this survey is in no way representative
of the state of sector players. Its sole aim is to cast light on
the situation as it is now.
It illustrates simply the exciting exchanges we have on the subject
and shows how much those who replied are already convinced of the
interest of e-learning and its ineluctable aspect,
What is of interest moreover, is that opinions are very categorical
and we don't need to re-analyse the answers.

Does on-line training cost more to create than conventional
training? |
12% |
88% |
|
This answer is quite surprising.
It is, in fact, common enough to encounter approaches which
present e-learning as a more costly investment than traditional
training.
One has to distinguish here between the two main formula which
are web-based training and virtual classes.
The latter fall into a logic of design very similar to physical
presence training and the investment in design is also very
similar to the creation of a course or class-course.
When web-based-training requires greater pedagogical and visual
content (i.e. over and above transposition of documents with
a few evaluation functions in addition), it means, on the
contrary, an effort of formalisation and substantial pedagogical
and graphic content. The three cost-aggravating factors of
conception are as follows :
- Individualisation of the cursus
- Interactivity of sequences created
- Wealth of media employed (audio, video, animated graphism)

Is eLearning efficient ? |
78% |
22% |
|
The people surveyed are very confident
in the efficiency of e-learning. But once again, be wary!
We have only just completed the first full-dress experimental
phases, some major corporations have invested and can now
show a return on their investment
but does that mean
that there is a real gain in pedagogical efficiency? Does
one learn more efficiently on line than in the classroom?
Is efficiency measured, proved, compared and if yes what are
the measuring tools?

| Question n°3 |
Yes |
No |
| Are
the technologies reliable ? |
33% |
67% |
|
The answer speaks for itself. It emphasises
the technological uncertainty and hesitation confronting decision-makers.
Which software author to choose to produce pedagogical content
integrated in a platform, which platform and as a function
of what criteria, which formula to choose (purchase, hire,
ASP
?) . What standards guarantee my investment, how
to choose a long-lasting software range? There are so many
questions and it is easy to see in this survey the difficulty
of making a decision.

Is articulation of traditional training/eLearning easy for you
? |
31% |
69% |
|
This is a very complex dimension to control.
One of the big problems facing training managers is to integrate
e-learning like new pedagogical methods in the single cause
of training. It is not a matter of creating a second "
world " dedicated to e-learning. The systems and tools
chosen must enable perfect merger of e-learning in the traditional
organisation of the training service.

| Question n°5 |

No |

Do you have a clear picture of market players? |
69% |
31% |

You can see here that the press and news
on the web have been efficient. The players in this new approach
are quite well known. But while the names are known, the products
or related services are less so, and understanding of the
positioning of the offer (excluding platform sellers) is not
obvious.

| Question n°6 |

| Do
you think that eLearning will totally change training habits? |
77% |

The determined defenders of blackboards
and chalk had better watch out. It is clear that with e-learning
training will change radically. If you do not appreciate that
now, you risk missing the boat.

This will really please training organisations,
they are going to have to train for e-learning. An incredible
paradox where a new activity generates traditional training
needs and no one screams of the risk of cannibalisation or
outright substitution. Rest assured you can also train for
distance e-learning.
But joking apart. This information is essential. It shows
the path to follow so that e-learning is not just a subject
of casual talk but a real acquired skill, mastered by all
players in the domain of training. The scope is huge and it
must be considered. That will remove obstacles, resistances
and other internal blocks for organisations. The word is out,
all e-learning players must unite to accelerate the process
and make it even more efficient..
